Harry’s Development & Leadership Coaching practice leans on the metaphor of “orienteering: finding one’s way in the woods” to help clients play to their strengths, align their actions with specific outcomes, and accelerate their progress.

He partners with each client idividually, coaching him or her to:

  • Get an accurate bearing from his or her internal compass. What is true for the client? How do feelings about the situation impact their judgment, decision-making, and execution?
  • Read the contours on the “map” and recognize the shapes of the land. What is the “objective” reality behind the situation or circumstance. What are the critical dimensions of the situation? What is the lay of land, so to speak?
  • Measure distances and plot a course from landmark to landmark. Distance may be measured quantitatively (or qualitatively) in terms of people, projects, and money.
  • Adjust bearings for “magnetic declination.” Explore, understand and compensate for intellectual biases, personality tendencies, work-style preferences, deep habits, decision-making style, and influencing skills.
  • Overcome obstacles, and navigate around them (even hidden or unforeseen barriers to success). Business is people. Yet it’s all about effective execution: making progress involves rapid learning, innovative problem solving, effective decision making, and efficient communication.
